Introducing our new name!

Today, we’re excited to share the next phase of our journey - introducing our new name!

A few weeks ago we announced that we have joined forces with Alibaba to build a new initiative around open source data processing technologies. Deepening our partnership with Alibaba came after a long-standing collaboration around the Apache Flink project, where we have actively worked together to contribute numerous enhancements to the community, based on the large-scale deployment of Apache Flink at Alibaba.

Since we are not only committed to continuing, but further accelerating our contribution to open source Big Data technology developments, we want our new identity to reflect our roots and future vision. From its inception, Apache Flink has evolved from a research project to the leading open source data stream processor, enabling the world’s largest enterprises to understand their data and run their business in real time. As we are deepening our commitment to open source and Apache Flink, we are introducing our new name today:

We listened to our community, partners, and customers, had numerous conversations with stakeholders and our own team to get a wealth of information about what makes us different. Turning these aspects into our new identity was a major cornerstone.

Enabling people and businesses by providing real-time data technology has always been at our core. Equally, our focus to support open source, user-friendly data processing technology, that makes modern data-intensive application development easier, faster and more robust for the developer community worldwide.

Consequently, our new name reflects our history and future aspirations, while maintaining our focus and vision for the community and our customers. Derived from verum (‘real’, in Latin), the name emphasizes the value of stream processing - understanding the world as it manifests in real time.

Ververica reflects our vision to enable enterprises to understand and run their business in real time while highlighting our continued and accelerated commitment to Apache Flink and the open source community.

Under the Ververica brand, we will continue to serve our customers, partners, and the open source community, alongside Alibaba, at an accelerated pace. We look forward to continue paving the way as real-time data processing evolves towards exciting new horizons in the future!
